Costing around £65 the SpareOne mobile phone runs on a singe AA battery and, left unused, holds charge for 15 years! If that wasn’t enough with an operating temperature ranging from a teeth clattering -22F, to a sun cream screaming 140F, this phone is suitable for both polar expeditions and the desert stages of the Dakar rally.

But, before you get rid of your smartphone, note that the SpareOne doesn’t come with a touchscreen, can’t text, has no apps or internet connection although it does come with a torch, waterproof packaging and operates without a SIM card!
